Weather: Cloudy; 67 degrees

William Byron brought home a sixth-place finish in the Johnsonville 180 at Road America on Sunday afternoon. With this finish, Byron now has 15 top-10 finishes this season. The Charlotte native remains second in the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship standings, 107 markers behind first.

The field was set for the 45-lap event by the rule book after NASCAR called qualifying due to weather. The Liberty University machine rolled off the grid sixth in the final road-course event of the season. Shortly after taking the green flag, Byron was scored in the 12th position. When the first caution flag was shown on lap 6, the team elected to remain on track and not visit pit road. Byron restarted from the ninth position on lap 8. At the conclusion of Stage One, the 19-year-old had advanced one position and finished eighth.

Crew chief Dave Elenz called Byron to pit road for four tires and fuel under the stage-ending caution. Byron started the second stage from the 16th position after some competitors remained on track following Stage One. While running 12th on lap 17, the No. 23 of Spencer Gallagher spun in front of the No. 9 machine and Byron maneuvered his way around without obtaining any damage. At the end of Stage Two, Byron was scored in the 11th position and told the team that the track was very chaotic. Elenz made the call to stay out on track and the team restarted eighth.

With the help of his spotters, Byron navigated his way through the course inside the top 10 for the majority of the next run. Elenz brought Byron to pit road for his final green-flag pit stop on lap 27 for four tires and fuel. Once the green-flag pit stops cycled through, Byron was scored in the fourth position. The final laps of the event continued to be chaotic, but Byron remained inside the top 10, bringing home a sixth-place finish.

Jeremy Clements scored his first NXS victory and was followed by Michael Annett, Matt Tifft, Justin Marks and Brendan Gaughan.

William Byron, driver No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet team
"What a race. This was my first start at Road America and I learned a lot this weekend. I was able to lean on my teammates throughout the weekend and gain some good knowledge that I was able to use in the race. Dave (Elenz, crew chief) called a great race and definitely put us in a good position. It is going to be nice getting back to some intermediate tracks and I am really looking forward to Darlington next week."
