Bethel, N.Y.- (August 3, 2013) William Byron recorded one of his biggest wins of his career when he captured the Young Lions win at the Bethel (N.Y.) Motor Speedway at Legendstock 2013. Byron was the number one qualifier out of the 49 cars who were entered at the New York oval. After placing second in his qualifying heat, the North Carolina teenager prepared for the 50-lap main event where he would start on the outside of the front row.
Byron traded the runner-up and third place position throughout the main event but had bigger things on his mind, to win this regional event which would help him in his quest for the 2013 U.S. Legends Young Lions National Championship.
With two laps to go Byron earned the second position and had his No. 25 Dennis Lambert-prepared race car ready to take the top overall spot. When the checkered flag flew Byron was right on the rear of the overall Pro winner but was the first Young Lions race car giving him the rewarding win.
This was Byron's 17th win of the 2013 campaign. He currently sits atop the U.S. Legends Young Lions National Championship standings, but knows that the point's battle is far from over.
"This was a great win," added William. "To be the fast qualifier out of 49 cars was very cool. I am proud of the win. I keep looking at the guitar trophy. It is definitely my favorite trophy so far."
